International Yoga Day celebrated in Kuwait
KUWAIT: The first ever Yoga Day was celebrated in Kuwait on Sunday, June 21 at the Indian embassy in Kuwait. The event took place from 6am to 8am. Minister of Amiri Diwan H E Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah was the chief guest at the event, which was attended by large number of people including Kuwaitis and those from other nationalities. "I am extremely thrilled to see large participation here for International Yoga Day," H E Sheikh Nasser said Mass public yoga sessions in collaboration with Kuwait-based organizations such as the 'Art of Living', 'Harmony House' and 'Isha Foundation' took place at the embassy. Members of these organizations led the Yoga session which was followed by the public. The event was supported by Indian Doctors Forum and was sponsored by L&T India. The event began with showing Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message on Yoga Day. Different yoga asanas were performed along with a meditation session, as per common yogic protocol prepared by the Government of India. A large number of foreign nationals including Kuwaiti citizens attended and performed yoga asanas and meditation. Earlier 'Yogathon 2015' was organized by Sevadarshan Kuwait in association with Amma Kuwait, Harmony House, Art of Living, Yogi, Sky Yoga, Artistic Yoga and Pilates on Friday at the Indian embassy of Kuwait.
More than 290 yoga enthusiasts from all walks of life performed 'Surya Namaskar' and various other yoga asanas.The yoga session by Sevadarshan kids and yoga performance by their women’s group were impressive. This was followed by the presentation of various yoga postures by other organisations including Kuwaiti nationals. It was wonderful to know a large number of Kuwaiti nationals regularly practise yoga. Harmony House, led by a Kuwaiti national Shaikha Al Afraj, conducts various yoga and meditation workshops which are attended by Kuwaiti and other nationals. The International Yoga Day gave a fresh spurt to yoga enthusiasts in Kuwait.
